As part of the celebrations marking the 53rd anniversary of the glorious victory of October 6, the Center for Studies of Scientific Heritage at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, organized a national commemorative event highlighting one of the most significant chapters in Egypt’s modern history. The event featured military, religious, and intellectual perspectives, along with firsthand accounts presented by a distinguished group of participants and experts.
The event commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming address delivered by Prof. Dr. Soheir Ramadan Fahmy, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. She welcomed the distinguished guests and attendees, emphasizing the importance of commemorating the October 6 Victory as a defining moment in Egypt’s modern history and an opportunity to reflect on the values of determination, perseverance, discipline, strategic planning, and the effective management of resources embodied by this historic achievement.
She noted that commemorating the October Victory within the university should not be limited to celebrating the past. Rather, it should serve as an opportunity to educate younger generations about the sacrifices made by the members of the Egyptian Armed Forces, reflect on the lessons learned from this national experience, and connect historical memory with the responsibility of young people in shaping the nation’s future.
She further emphasized the importance of universities fulfilling their role in promoting national awareness and knowledge, and ensuring that the Faculty of Science remains a place where science, history, and patriotism come together. Such an environment strengthens students’ and researchers’ understanding of the value of science in building nations and the power of determination in overcoming challenges.
In concluding her remarks, she warmly welcomed the distinguished heroes of the Egyptian Armed Forces participating in the event, expressing her deepest appreciation and pride in them and in Egypt’s honored martyrs. She reaffirmed that the October Victory would forever stand as a testament to the Egyptian people’s ability to transform determination into achievement and challenges into victory.

October: A Legacy That Lives On
The event demonstrated that reflecting on the October Victory should go beyond recalling historical events. It should also involve examining the preparations, causes, strategies, and outcomes that made the victory possible, transforming this anniversary into a source of knowledge and awareness rather than merely an occasion for celebration.
From this perspective, organizing such events within academic and scientific institutions is particularly important. Preserving national memory is an intellectual and educational responsibility, and passing it on to younger generations should be grounded in documented testimony, scholarly analysis, and respect for historical truth.
As Egypt commemorates the October Victory, heartfelt tribute is due to the nation’s honored martyrs, along with profound appreciation for the heroes of the Egyptian Armed Forces who achieved this historic victory and for everyone dedicated to documenting this experience and passing its lessons on to future generations.
May God have mercy on the martyrs of our nation, protect Egypt and its Armed Forces, and forever bless our country with security, peace, and victory.
