Under the patronage and in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of Cairo University, the University's Grand Celebration Hall hosted a major ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Science, one of the oldest academic institutions in Egypt and the Arab world. Since its establishment in 1925, the Faculty has served as a beacon of science and knowledge, playing a pioneering role in advancing the study of the basic sciences and educating successive generations of scientists and researchers who have enriched scientific research and contributed to community development.
The celebration was attended by Dr. Ahmed Ragab, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Mohamed Refaat, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Nadia Zakhary, former Minister of Scientific Research; Eng. Hussein Massoud, former Minister of Civil Aviation; Dr. Mostafa Hussein, former Minister of Environment; Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University; Mr. Alaa Thabet, Deputy Head of the National Press Authority; Dr. Soheir Ramadan, Dean of the Faculty of Science; the Faculty's vice deans; a number of college deans; distinguished public figures; alumni and prominent members of the Faculty from different generations; Mr. Hany Redwan, Secretary-General of the University; faculty members, teaching assistants, administrative staff, and a large gathering of students.
The ceremony opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a recitation of the poem "The Virtue of Knowledge," attributed to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, by student Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud. A documentary film was then screened, highlighting the Faculty's history and its century-long journey of academic and scientific achievement.
The program featured speeches by Dr. Soheir Ramadan, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Ashraf Mansour, an alumnus of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo; Eng. Kamel El Sawy, Regional President of United Energy Group; Dr. Hamdy Mahmoud Hassanein, representing the Faculty's former deans; Dr. Ahmed Ragab, Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs; and concluded with remarks by Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of Cairo University.
The celebration also witnessed the launch of the Faculty's commemorative book and official website, followed by the honoring of several University leaders, distinguished faculty members, and pioneering scholars. The program continued with a theatrical performance and a lecture entitled "100 Years of Excellence," delivered by Dr. Maher El Qady, a researcher in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California.
The event continued with a musical performance by the Cairo University Choir and Orchestra, followed by remarks from Dr. Mohamed Redwan, representing doctoral degree recipients, before concluding with the recognition of graduates who earned diploma, master's, and doctoral degrees.

He also reaffirmed the University's continued support for the Faculty, highlighting ongoing development projects, including the renovation of the Waly Lecture Hall, the modernization of laboratories, and the redevelopment of the Astronomy and Meteorology Building.

For her part, Dr. Soheir Ramadan, Dean of the Faculty, stated that the centennial celebration reflects a century of academic and research excellence. She thanked the University President for his continued support, noting that the Faculty houses 47 laboratories, enrolls more than 10,000 students, and offers 24 general academic programs, 7 specialized programs, and 167 academic degrees.
